Objectives
Helps new auditors "get off on the right foot". Explains what they will be expected to do and how to approach their basic audit responsibilities. Includes case studies on common audit areas and internal controls testing, including understanding how all the various pieces fit together into the "big picture".

Introduction to Internal Controls & Analytical Procedures
  • Typical procedures for staff auditors (walkthroughs, checklists, control tests, etc.)
  • What analytics are, and how to perform them
Common Audit Areas (e.g. Cash, A/R, PP&E, Inventory, A/P, Debt)
  • Basic risks and things to watch out for
  • How to perform common audit procedures, including case studies
Communication Skills
  • Keys to great listening
  • How to interview the client to gather information
Public Accounting Topics
  • Orientation to the field of Public Accounting, including discussion of the expectations of a staff accountant
